The Red Deer Chiefs organization is proud to announce that nine athletes from our U17A team have earned roster spots on Team Alberta and will represent the province at the Tackaberry Trophy in Halifax from August 11-15.
The following Chiefs players have been selected to Team Alberta:
Bronson Scott
Gavin McEvoy
Gavin Roth
Hadin Nelson
Kian Siemens
Cooper Northcott
Dylan Turner
Tucker Istace
Tyrell Strauss (G)
These athletes will compete against the top talent from across Canada, showcasing the strength and depth of the Chiefs program. Their selection is a testament to their hard work, skill and dedication throughout the season.
Adding to this exciting milestone, Chiefs Head Coach Darren Kinnear will lead Team Alberta behind the bench. This marks his first year serving as head coach at the provincial level.
Kinnear has built an impressive coaching resume in a short time. He joined the Chiefs in 2023 as an Assistant Coach with the U15A team before stepping into the Head Coach role in 2024. Last season, he led the U17A Chiefs, continuing a streak of success that has defined his tenure.
Under Kinnear’s leadership, Chiefs teams have captured two league championships, two provincial championships and the prestigious Canada Day Tournament—an international event hosted in Calgary.
“We are incredibly proud of our athletes and Coach Kinnear,” said Chris Mandrusiak, RDLA President. “Their dedication and hard work have earned this opportunity, and we know they will represent Red Deer and Alberta with pride.”
The entire Chiefs community looks forward to cheering on Team Alberta in Halifax and supporting our players as they compete on the national stage.
