All Players whether new to lacrosse or returning for another year of fun are welcome to register for the Red Deer Lacrosse Association Lacrosse programs. Our lacrosse program are designed to allow new players the opportunity to start out in the sport in a fundamentals based program, while also allowing all returning players the ability to improve their skills. Box lacrosse requires full equipment.
Box Lacrosse
Due to the ongoing COVID19 Pandemic, RDLA has significantly reduced our fees and adopted a "pay as you play" fee structure for the 2021 Season. We hope this change will allow our lacrosse community to grow as we navigate the challenges of changing program delivery and other uncertainties our community members are experiencing. An initial $75.00 non-fundable registration fee will apply immediately, it is expected that once you register your player will be committed to the entire lacrosse season through June, and monthly payments will be completed as detailed below. Our lacrosse season will start the week of March 22, 2021 through the week of June 7, 2021. Each Training Group will be allocated 1 floor time a week for the duration of the season. The League Play Payment will only apply in the event game play can resume with the Central Alberta Lacrosse League. We anticipate a return to our regular fee schedule for the 2022 Season.
Training Groups will be made on a parity basis using previous seasons evaluation and coach recommendations. Training Groups may be change to maintain parity at the discretion of the board. No special request will be considered this season unless extenuating circumstances are determined to be a factor in a child's ability to participate in lacrosse.
"A" Teams - The RDLA has decided not to have an "A" Division and instead offer parity programming for the 2021 Box Lacrosse Season. One of the many factors of this decision was to ensure the viability of lacrosse in Central Alberta as a whole. We did not take this decision lightly and do not believe it will be detrimental to player development. In fact we hope our "A" players take this opportunity to develop in other areas of the game that may receive less focus than physical skills, including leadership, game sense and teamwork.

Field Lacrosse
Our summer lacrosse program is offered to boys and girls of all ages and is designed to introduce children to the game of lacrosse regardless of experience, as well as assist those more advanced players in refining their skills in a positive, energetic and fun environment. In order to have a great field experience this season we hope to have 20 kids per team register. If our registration numbers are lower we will look at combining teams for the field season.
Registration opens in early May with a season that runs in July and August. Registration fees includes all regular season games and 1 practice per week. Your regular season games are played at 5 competitive events consisting of 3-4 Field Days and a Provincial event, which are all optional. Summer event locations include Lacombe & Red Deer, Edmonton and Leduc with teams competing from all over Alberta and surrounding area.
Field lacrosse for boys requires full equipment the same as box lacrosse, with the exception of cleats instead of running shoes.
Field lacrosse for girls is Non-Contact throughout all divisions and requires only eye goggles as recommended, cleats instead of running shoes, and a ladies field lacrosse stick, which does differ substantially from box lacrosse sticks.
